Did you know that Mother Nature has the ability to voice her displeasure of people living in a location and spew death to make her point? ‘Tis the case, my fellow Birubegjians. Take Lake Nyos, a crater lake in Cameroon (a country in Central Africa). So the lake, which apparently has a pocket of magma underneath it, leaks carbon dioxide directly into the water, changing it to carbonic acid…stay with me here…
Well one day, August 21st 1986 to be precise, there was a landslide that woke up ‘ol Mother Nature. Being justifiably upset at this interruption, she decided to make the lake exhale all that carbon dioxide, which resulted in the suffocation of 1,700 people and 3,500 livestock in nearby towns and villages.
Lesson? Don’t mess with Mother Nature…seriously!
